My Mom’s Crab & Spaghetti Italian Family Recipe
This is a special treat for us and Sandy makes it for my birthday. The aroma is absolutely heavenly. Since we live so far from the coast Sandy uses frozen crabs. I remember when my mom made them she would get live crabs which were put into a paper bag which we would bring home. This meal takes a few hours as the sauce needs to simmer. In South Philly we use the term gravy to describe what most people call tomato sauce for our pasta. Most people consider the word gravy to mean the brown gravy with beef.
The flavor is really fantastic. Sandy usually makes enough crab gravy (sauce) to be able to freeze half to be used another day on fresh spaghetti. The thicker sauce the second time it is used often tastes even better than the first time. A glass of red wine really adds to the meal.
